AirAsia X said a route distance plane Malaysia-Saudi Arabia was forced to return to Kuala Lumpur shortly after takeoff due to technical problems, Sunday (8/2).
The plane was circling it for a few hours before landing safely in Kuala Lumpur.
AirAsia X is a low-cost carrier AirAsia subsidiary that specializes in serving the remote.
AirAsia Chief Executive Kamarudin Meranun said the damage occurred in the auto-thrust system 45 minutes after takeoff. The pilot then switch to manual thrust and actually get on the flight, but decided to go back because it is still very beginning of the flight plan 10 hours to Jeddah, he said.
Airbus A330 aircraft circling over four hours on the waterway to reduce fuel and prevent the risk of a hard landing, said Kamarudin.
"There is no emergency situation. It's not a safety issue, just a precaution. Safety is the most important thing for us," said Kamarudin as reported by The Associated Press.
These are added to the flight number D7172 plane landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 17:40 local time, more than five hours after takeoff.
The passengers were transferred to another aircraft which departed on the same day.
